FASB wil maatregelen tegen off balance sheet accounting

De Amerikaanse Financial Accounting Standards Board heeft aangekondigd de huidige praktijk van off balance sheet accounting te willen terugdraaien.
De Amerikaanse
standard setter stelt dat de huidige regels worden misbruikt.
"Current off-balance-sheet accounting has been abused and rulemakers plan to soon issue a proposal, probably in August, to bring them back on the balance sheet", zo citeert
Reuters FASB-voorzitter Robert Herz.
"My own view is that the current accounting has been stretched and abused", aldus Herz in de marge van een conferentie over auditing.
"It has been treated as a punch bowl and we have got to take away that punch bowl."
