Amerikaanse accountants neigen naar Trump
Als het aan Amerikaanse accountants ligt gaat Donald Trump het bij de presidentsverkiezingen winnen van Hillary Clinton. Tenminste, als we waarde mogen hechten aan een poll onder 330 certified public en 'andere' accountants.
43 procent van de respondenten zegt te gaan stemmen op republikein Trump, 27 procent op democraat Clinton. 11 procent van de stemmen gaat naar Gary Johnson, de kandidaat van de Libertaire partij, en 7 procent naar andere kandidaten. De resterende 12 procent zegt op geen van de kandidaten te gaan stemmen.
De voorkeur voor Trump lokt een verhit debat uit op Accounting Today, de site die over de poll bericht.
"As an accountant in a profession that values ethics and full disclosure, I am disgusted that accounting professionals would vote for Trump. The man is an unethical liar, opportunist, power hungry, and he has built his wealth on the backs and misfortunes of people he used", aldus een reageerder.
"I am ashamed of the majority of my profession", zegt een andere bezoeker. "That educated men and women will ignore the facts and follow the hot air of a man whose only interest is in the benefit of his wallet instead of the good of ALL the people in this country, means they don't care about anyone else either."
Een oudere accountant ("after practicing as a CPA for almost 50 years, I am going public with my opinion") vindt het onbegrijpelijk dat collega's voor Trump kiezen. "He is ignorant, bombastic, and narcissistic. And, specific to our profession, he is a suspected tax cheat, an underhanded businessman, and a liar. We have all had clients who act like this and eventually we fire them because we know that they will cause us nothing but legal battles, headaches, and heartaches."
Hij vermoedt dat de afkeer van Hillary Clinton vooral te maken heeft met het feit dat zij een slimme en sterke vrouw is. "Those are exactly the qualities you support in a man, but you can’t stand them in a woman", is zijn verwijt aan zijn collega’s.
